How humid is it?

April 14, 2010

Posted by Kanga.

It is well into the nineties Fahrenheit here these days. The crushing humidity hasn’t set in, yet. That will come in June and stay through September. I suspect that I am getting acclimated, however, because it doesn’t seem that hot to me. I used to melt in ninety degree weather.

As I was leaving work one day, I noticed that the water from the sprinklers was turning directly into vapor and rising up rather than falling down.

Orange butterfly with black and white markings
I managed to catch this butterfly on video this morning. Please excuse the unsteadiness of it. I was looking into the sun, so was not able to see if I was aiming it correctly or not.

Good marketing?

April 11, 2010

OMO detergent boxes with tag line "Dirt is good."I’m not sure how declaring that “dirt is good” is motivation to buy this brand. I thought dirt was bad and what you want the detergent to get rid of, but what do I know?

No Bills

Sign- Stick No BillApparently, a simple “Stick No Bill” wasn’t enough. So, they solved the problem of people posting bills by posting their own really big bills. (Capturing DaddyBird’s shadow was purely accidental, but it looks kinda cool.)

Aji

March 28, 2010

aji sashimiWe’ve discovered a new favorite restaurant, like we needed one. And, as you can see, it has the added benefit of creative food presentation. Aji is one of the more delicious fish on the face of the earth and now we know he is handsome, as well.

Examples: Good or Bad?

March 26, 2010

In addition to the 20 something year olds we hang out with saying that they wish their parents were like us, our friend Nas just tweeted:

So, dear parents, you may have wondered if we would ever amount to anything, but apparently we are setting some kind of standard.

(For the non-computer geeks among you – FTW means “for the win” an exclamation that means its a good thing.)

Quoted

I’ve been quoted in the article at the link above talking about Twitter. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. We are having an atypical experience because we are able to socially connect with wonderful people that we would not have crossed paths with otherwise. We know more Emiratis than Americans (in Dubai). We know WAY more Indians, Pakistanis and Syrians, than Americans. And, we mustn’t overlook our dear Maltese. (If I’ve left out your nationality, please don’t take it personally. We love you all.)
